My work often begins with an intriguing thread of a forgotten or hidden story, and so I sometimes think of myself as a detective – following the entangled trail of an artefact or story, and forming my findings into new presences that allow their specifics to become universal. I explore themes of mental health, haunting, time and trauma, to manifest experiences in the present: experiences which I think of as ‘invited hauntings’. Using moving image, sound, conversation and installation, the work draws on research into the lived experience of trauma, haunting, memory and mental health, particularly in women.
